My husband and I were at a dinner party. Our hostess had her paints and canvases out, really no particular reason why. I kept looking at them. She noticed how often I would look at them because after she put a beverage in my hand she immediately put paint brushes in the other. I have been painting ever since.
I am a self taught artist and I like to play with different types of traditional media, as well as, media that wouldn’t be considered traditional. Textures and colors are my thing. Abstraction instead of realistic representations are exciting.
When a project starts, there’s usually some concept outlined. As the project progresses, intuition takes over and the authentic creation begins. The created should evoke some emotion; maybe joy or apathy. My hope is to move the viewer past the feelings and engage with thinking of the work. Then, mix thinking and feeling together to form a personal interpretation. We don’t need to have the same interpretation!
Portland, Oregon has been home forever. Family, dancing, eating, studying (whatever is interesting at the time), traveling, home-improvement projects, working a corporate job and sleeping happens when I’m not painting.
